Crunchy, slightly sweet, sunflower seeds (also known as kernels) are a classic standalone snack, and equally popular sprinkled on breads, cakes, cupcakes and cookies. The sunflower is native to North America, and their seeds were long used as a high energy food source. Sunflower kernels are incredibly high in vitamin E, an important antioxidant that effectively neutralizes the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E exerts a significant anti-inflammatory effect which helps reduce the symptoms of arthritis and asthma. According to researchers at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Blacksburg, Va.), compared to most nuts and seeds sunflower kernels had the highest levels of healthy phytosterols, a plant-based phytochemical that helps reduce bad cholesterol and may aid in the prevention of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Sunflower seeds are also an excellent source of B vitamins, and minerals such as copper, magnesium, potassium, selenium, calcium and zinc. High in polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats, and low in saturated fats, clearly sunflower seeds are not only tasty, but heart smart. Another nice surprise with sunflower seeds is their protein content. The protein in sunflower seeds facilitates the body's use of key amino acids - these same amino acids are important for the growth and repair of tissues. Don't forget fiber. Sunflower seeds are chock full of fiber which encourages improved digestion and regularity, and helps manage blood sugar levels, both of which can aid in weight control and prevent obesity.

Due to the perishable nature of our chocolate and candy, we take special care to ensure delivery in perfect condition. If the temperature in our area or yours is above 70F, we only allow shipping using expedited methods (2 Day Air and UPS Next Day Air) and each box is packed with special insulation and gel ice. There's $5 charge added to the shipping fee to cover for the cost of the added insulation and gel ice. During the summer months, to prevent chocolates and candy from sitting on a truck over a weekend we only ship chocolates and candy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
